War photographs have been around since as early as the War to End All Wars. They usually are taken to document what is happening in the war. These pictures often find their way into propaganda posters or newspapers. The photos are a neutral yet biased link to what is going on in a particular war. Elements that affect the viewer's opinion of a war or conflict can be the angle it is shot at and what is going on in the picture.

The angle of a picture is what defines it. The angle of a photo determines how you perceive what is going on. If a photo is shot from below the intended target, it makes it seem larger then life or powerful. Many pictures of tanks are taken from a low angle to show that they are powerful and a force to be reckoned with. With photos taken from a high angle, they can cause the object to seem inferior. Sometimes pictures that are shot this way are meant to show tragedy, especially with dead bodies in mass graves or piled along roads. Pictures taken from aircraft and satellites can make the destruction seem distant. These photographs can make the war seem disconnected, or distanced from reality. The prints from aircraft show the bombs exploding over a large area, and supposedly hitting its intended targets. But what the picture do not show you is the actual death and destruction. This allows for the viewer to see a "civil" war, a war with out the miss drops. When it comes to taking pictures of soldiers, many of the photos have been taken at the same level as the man or woman in the target. This makes the person as an equal to everyone else. This is one of the few times photos show the true emotions on a person's face that has to deal with the mental and physical drain and horrors of a war. The photo from the same level shows, the scars, feelings, and tiredness of that soldier.
