Spanish War was a struggle between fascism and Communism


            The Spanish Civil War signified to great ideologies, Fascism and Communism. To some extent the Spanish Civil War struggled between Fascism and Communism but towards the end, Fascism was not applied by the government. There were two opposing sides during the Spanish Civil War, the Nationalists and the Republicans. The Nationalists controlled the ideology of Fascism and the Republicans controlled the ideology of communism. As these major groups quarreled over military and revolutionary policy they caused a social revolution and severe internal confusion. .
             The Nationalists contained within their lines the majority of the Fascist groups. They were led by General Francisco Franco a nationalistic anti-leftist who rose in rebellion. Franco supported the army including a large party of Moroccan troops and parts of the Spanish Foreign policy. Catholic monarchist parties called Carlists formed together a strong force alongside the Moroccans, who were employed by Franco. The 'Falange', another type of a fascist party emerged with the Carlists in 1937 under Franco's command. Franco was assisted with foreign support from fascist Mussolini who provided Spain with naval and air force units. Hitler provided air support and ground support including tanks, pilots and artillery equipment. Franco was extensively elevated by their foreign contributions.
             The Republicans controlled the ideology of Communism in Spain. The Republicans did not have an army but they did have some support from the Spanish air force and the navy. Foreign involvement was not essential, leaving the Republicans to depend on the Soviet Union. Communism was supported by some organizations such as the POUM and the UGT parties, who were extremely essential groups to fight against the opposing side. The Republicans cause had a number of foreign volunteers from Great Britain and the U.S who formed an international group that failed due to the number of casualties in the fighting.
