Marco Polo


            This is a paper on Marco Polo's life, discovery's, and how he changed the world. Throughout this paper I will tell you why he was a great explorer, and how he opened up the world.
             In 1253 Nicolo and Maffeo Polo set out on a trading journey to Constinople. Nicolo's wife was expecting a baby. The Polo's 6th year in Constinople trouble occurred in the Byzantine Empire, so they moved their headquarters to Soldia. Business was not good. In 1260 the brothers went to Surai on the Volga River, where they traded for a year. Then they tried to leave but got themselves stranded at Bukhara for 3 years. After they left Bukhara they came to a murderous obstacle of the Gobi Desert. They finally reached the new capitol of the great Kahn, Beijing in 1266.
             Kublai Khan, the great Kahn, was very hospitable and asked then about the Pope and the Roman church. A year later the great Kahn sent them with a message to the Pope asking to send him 100 learned men to teach the people about Christianity and western science. Kublai presented the brothers with a golden tablet that was suppose to keep them safe and assist them. It still took the Polo's three full years to return to Venice in April of 1269.
             Marco Polo was born in 12 54, in Venice, Italy. He grew up not knowing his father or his uncle. His mother and servants talked very highly of his father. Marco often visited the port and dreamed of going on sea adventures. Soon his mom became ill, and her depression of her husband not being there kept her for having any desire of going on. Now Marco was left alone. Finally one day his father and his uncle arrived at the front door. They had just found out that his mother was dead. It was a sad moment. They couldn't figure out whether or not to take Marco with them. Since they couldn't leave the boy alone they took him with them. .
             At the end of the year 1271the Polo's once again left Italy. This time they had Marco and two monks.
