Computer Viruses


Other types of viruses include email viruses, Trojan horses, and worms. Trojan horses on the other hand, are "A destructive program that masquerades as a benign application. Unlike viruses, Trojan horses do not replicate themselves but they can be just as destructive. One of the most insidious types of Trojan horse is a program that claims to rid your computer of viruses but instead introduces viruses onto your computer-(http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/T/Trojan_horse.html). Another type of infection is known as worms, which unlike viruses run and cause havoc all by themselves "Computer Worms are reproducing programs that run independently and travel across network connections. The main difference between viruses and worms is the method in which they reproduce and spread- (http://virusall.com/worms.html). Although viruses and worms are somewhat different they can be just as harmful to your computer. .
             Some of the more recent popular viruses include the SoBig.F file, which as actually mentioned on the news. This worm was started in about August of 2003 it was launched to attack mostly Windows XP, and 2000; however many more were also vulnerable. What this worm did was sent out many emails with the subjects: wicked screen saver, thank you, your application, approved and a couple others. Unfortunately, I was one of the many who received this through my email. At one point I had sixty eight emails with all those subject lines. Luckily, I didn't download any of them.              Another recent popular worm was one by the name of Blaster which was also discovered in August of 2003.
