Rainsford, a world reknown hunter, finds the true meaning of hunting in the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell. Connell points out in this story that you can lose control in a split second. He also shows that if you play your cards right, you can be ahead of the game as quick as you lost control. Connell uses Rainsford to demonstrate the strength of the human mind, and the evil it can cause. Rainsford shows his courage and strength as the plot thickens against him. .
A very major turning point in this story takes place. The turning point in the plot is when General Zaroff tells Rainsford that he enjoys hunting the most dangerous animal. The one that can reason, the human being. Up until this point you can gather that Zaroff is a hunter, but he seems also to be very civilized. He enjoys hunting very much, large and intelligent game in particularly. Rainsford rejects Zaroff's interest in this game. He tells Zaroff that this is murder. .
Throught the story, Connell keeps you on the edge of your seat. The suspense keeps building and building right up until the very ending of the story. The major suspenseful scene is when Zaroff begins to hunt Rainsford. You begin to fear for Rainsford's life as he is being tracked, and nearly killed more than a few times. Connell also will keep your interest by describing the scenes very vividly. You begin to feel that you are right along Rainsford, running through the jungle. Sweating, out of breath, but not daring to give up. Giving up means your life. You must strive to stay alive, even after the hunter, Zaroff, has given up, which gives you the chance to go for the kill. .
The ending grows very logically and naturally out of the story. Most people, of course, expect good to prevail over evil. Thats what happens in The Most Dangerous Game. Rainsford overcomes the odds of being the prey and retaliates against Zaroff and defeats him. Rainsford has to use his wit to get there, though.
