A Barbie Dolls Fate

            
             The poem opens up by illustrating a typical "picture perfect" cultural birth and early childhood. The author vividly describes how the child was shown how culture views itself by relating it to a perfect minature dollhouse environment. The author then shows the transition phase where Barbie's style of life clashes with the surrounding culture. I believe that the initial event is what sparked the cause in this story. The author starts off by showing this when she relates this through the main character getting made fun of for her big nose and fat legs. Continuing into the story, the author then breaks down the main character's physical and mental traits to try to justify the reason why society is rejecting this "perfect" child. That is then where the role of the "Barbie" comes into play in the story. .
             Since there is so many different ways society views culture, it is hard to create a picture perfect being. Even when a person try's to prove this theory wrong, they can't help the fact that culture is completely universal. Before the effect part of the poem arises, the author helps describe to the reader before hand, how so why this child really .
             "should" be perfect. A big theme in this story is the use of self-esteem or the lack there of. Her compete lack of self-esteem during her interaction with culture diminishes with each passing confrontation. Her mental state is far to weak to be able to respond correctly to societies demands leading into her abundant level of insecurity.
             Insecurity is another theme expressed in the story. This cause for her to apologize for her idea that society is not accpeting her. She was then told to act normal and just like everyone else. She was demanded to do several things she was not. This was against her good nature. And soon that is what caused it to finally give out. In the end, her weak attributes finally gave into her problems which led her to finally perish from society.
