            What is unique about American Rural life between 1850-1900?.
             The reason American Rural life was so unique in that time frame was due to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution was part of the first great discovery which was the steam engine. The Industrial Revolution also was due to the first great factories and textile mills which brought on mass production. Cities also started developing due to the Industrial Revolution because people wanted to be closer to where the factory work was developing. .

             The Industrial Revolution began in the late part of the 18th century. The revolution first began in Great Britain. After that it began being adopted by other countries, including the United States. The Industrial Revolution changed many things in the world. One change was the way we produced our goods. Secondly the Industrial Revolution changed our societies from agriculture to industry and manufacturing now being in control.
             The biggest technological advancement was in steam power. Without the use of the discovered new fuels like coal and petroleum textiles and manufactures would not be at the advancement we are today.
             The telegraph had also been invented during the Industrial Revolution. In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell transmitted the human voice over a wire, although it was several decades before the telephone became popular. The wireless telegraph became a standard safety device on all ocean going vessels.
             Within this time also occurred the growth of cities. Before the Industrial Revolution, most of the American population was rural. Due to most textile and factories being in the cities families would move to where the work was.
