Should candy and soft drinks be banned in schools?

I"d like to you tell that I"m definitely not for this proposition at all! Sure they have some good reasons for this, but they are definitely outweighed by the bad. The selling of candy and pop in schools does generate a lot of income, and if you look at it in Harlem's scenario we definitely need the money. This income goes towards each curriculum the school has to offer as well as field trips and physical education. What really is the problem with soft drinks and candy is school? The problem is that pop and candy are huge factors in the obesity crisis. If obesity is caused by excess calories and a lack of physical activity, what does this have to do with candy and pop? Sure, pop may cause excess calories if the physical requirements to burn them aren't met, but they left the part about caffeine out. Caffeine stimulates you and increases activity and reaction time, so wouldn't you think the more caffeine somebody drinks, the more energy they would have to perform physical activities? That's definitely what I got out of it. By banning candy and pop in schools, they are only going to create more financial problems, and in the mean time, not even affect the problem with obesity. It's just absurd to think that something so simple, such as the banning of candy and pop, could correct something so big, like obesity. Even if these are banned, you"d have to be foolish to think this is going to phase such a problem, since kids can just go home and drink sodas and snack on candy. Put this into perspective. You are a kid; soft drinks and candy were just banned in your school. Wouldn't you express more interest in this product since its "banned"? I"m sure that most of you would, it's the idea of being "deviant" that gives our society such a thrill. So what good would this proposed ban do? Many think it may contribute to the obesity problem which I know is untrue. I think it will only put schools like Harlem in more debt and encourage kids to bring their own candy and pop from home.
