We all know that "no one, male or female, deserves to be raped. Being in a man's house or car does not mean a woman has agreed to have sex with him- (Warshaw, 19). Here is a stupid one; "women who don't fight back haven't been raped- (Warshaw, 19). C'mon "you have been raped when you are forced to have sex against your will, whether you fight back or not- (Warshaw, 19). "If there's no gun or knife, you haven't been raped- (Warshaw, 19). Where do these silly myths come from! In reality, "it's rape whether the rapist uses a weapon or his fists, verbal threats, drugs or alcohol, physical isolation, your own diminished physical or mental state, or simply the weight of his body to overcome you-(Warshaw, 19). Okay you have to be a real fool if you take this next one to heart. "It's not really rape if the victim isn't a virgin- (Warshaw, 19). Do I have to slap you across the face and make you realize that "rape is rape, even if the woman isn't a virgin, even if she willingly had sex with the man before- (Warshaw, 19). These myths are killing me! "If a woman lets a man buy her dinner or pay for a movie or drinks, she owes him sex- (Warshaw, 19). Did a third grader make these up or something? We all know that "no one owes sex as a payment to anyone else, no matter how expensive the date- (Warshaw, 19). .
The one myth that I will be discussing with you about in detail is "rape is committed by crazed strangers- (Warshaw, 19). This seems to be the number one myth when it comes to the subject of rape. Why do most people believe that rape is some crazed stranger waiting in the alley or somewhere who just needs to get his load off in you? Why can't they see that rape can also happen between friends, couples or even married couples? Some states now believe that rape can even involve unwanted oral and anal sex. In the Ms. Survey Stats there have been many cases of acquaintance rape.
