Civil Disobedience

In "Civil Disobedience" Henry David Thoreau addresses the audiences by discussing his main disagreements. Having slavery, our government, the Mexican American War and its Taxation. I agree with Thoreau in being against slavery and the government who takes away peoples freedom by being unjust. I also disagree about the Mexican American War and the taxation that support the War. But Thoreau's main disagreement is the government who most of the times are unjust.
Thoreau strongly opposes slavery. That is why he refuses to comply with Massachusetts's civil authority because he thinks everyone should be free. He wasn't the only one who disagreed about having slaves. He says,.
There are thousand who are in opinion opposed to slavery and to the war yet in effect do nothing to put an end to them; who, esteeming themselves children of Washington and Franklin, sit down with their hands in their pockets and say that they know what to do, and do nothing; who even postpone the question of freedom to the question of free trade . (Thoreau 149).
Thoreau is trying to say that if we the people don't put justice on slavery then who shall, since the government isn't doing anything. We must take an action if we think slavery is not right. I personally think slavery wasn't correct because we were all created equally by God to be equally treated as he treated us.
King also fought for justice in Birmingham because his brothers and sisters were not being treated equally. And since they had already waited for 340 years, they couldn't wait any longer. King says, "justice too long delayed is justice denied" (185). King was right. The longer the government made them wait the more of a chance that they would get denied. He knew what he was doing in acting right away. Aristotle also said that slaves should have the same rights as everyone else, but that classes should remain the same. So what he really meant was that slaves should still be slaves no matter what.
