Dress Reponse

In the article, Slut for a Day, by Jenny McCarthy I was not at all surprised by the reactions Jenny received as she strutted her stuff around town dressed like a slut. Wearing short skirts, low cut tops, high-heeled shoes, and, god-for-bid, a combination of all three is not the most tactful way to go about getting attention. Sure, this method will definitely cause heads to turn and eyes to pop, but not for the right reasons. Sadly, when a woman wants to dress sexy and obviously takes it to far she is no longer noticed for her facial features, intelligence, and personality, but for her breast size, leg shape, and hourglass figure. And this false sense of sexiness gives off a free invitation to men and causes women to become angry or jealous. Regardless of whether this woman is a decent human being with morals and a conscience, men feel they are permitted to gawk, touch, or blatantly go for the sexual assault. It is amazing how just a person's clothing can give off a vibe and give other people the false knowledge that they know what kind of person she is; just because a woman dresses sexy, does not make her a slut. It is all because of stereotypes that society has built up about certain kinds of people and the associations that go along with they type of clothing those people are prone to wearing. Yet, if a man was to dress sexy, what with a slightly opened shirt, tight pants, or whatever the desire may be, he would not give off a sense of being easy, but simply attractive. These are the kinds of double standards within out society and it is hard to believe that many of these unfair treatments and associations come from the material we use to cover, or not cover, our bodies. Jenny stated it well with her tenth lesson: "You are more than the clothes you wear. Just don't expect anyone else to realize this.".
