Short da vinci bio


             On April 15, 1452 Leonardo Da Vinci was born in the Tuscan town of Vinci. He was the illigitame son of a Wealth Florentine notary. In the mid-1460's his family settled in Florence, which was the intellectual capital of Italy at the time. He was given a good education and in 1466 he was apprenticed to Andrea del Verrocchio, a leading painter n sculptor of his day. He began working on many paintings and large sculpture projects.
             In 1478 he left from the side of Verrochio and became an independent master. Leonardo was commisioned to paint several works in the time after such as the Adoration of the Maqi, Benois Madonna, Ginerva de' Benci, and Saint Jerome. .
             In 1482 Leonardo entered the service of the duke of Milan, Ludovico Sforza, after writing a convincing letter stating he knew how to construct portable bridges, cannons, bombardments, heavily armored ships and more. He was the chief engineer in many of the dukes military undertakings.
             In 1502 Leonardo entered the service of Cesare Borgia, duke of Romagna who was the son and chief general of Pope Alexander VI. Leonardo oversaw works on the papal territories in central italy. During this period he made many drawings of the Battle of Anghiari (a victory by Florence in it's war with Pisa) During this second Florentine period he painted several painting from which only one survived, one of the most famous paintings of all time, the Mona Lisa.
             Summoned by it's governer in 1506 Leonardo travelled to Milan. The next year he was named cort painter to King Louis XII of France who was then staying in Milan. From then on Leonardo split his time between Milan and Florence where he was commander of the French army in the city. From 1514 to 1516 he was housed in Palazzo Belveder in the Vatican and evidence suggests at that time his principal concern was with scientific research and experimentation. In 1516 he went to France to enter the service of King Francis I.
