He also edited literature textbooks, produced several translations, wrote screenplays for film and television, and continued with his "first love," music composition.              "By the early 1990s Burgess had written more than 60 books, over 150 musical compositions, and continued to publish articles and reviews worldwide.              A Clockwork Orange had a very small list of characters. There was Alex: the gang's leader and star of the story, Georgie: the gang member (droog) that attempts to overthrow Alex, Dim: the very unintelligent droog ("Dim being really dim" (Burgess 1)), Pete: the passive droog, the four victims, the prison Charlie: the priest in the prison who puts down the treatment that Alex undergoes, Dr. Brodsky, the doctor that gives the treatment to Alex, and Alex's father and mother.
