The Frozen Pond

Tommy was outside on the porch playing when his mother called him to come inside for supper. Tommy was seven years old and didn't really have many friends. At the dinner table as Tommy and his parents were eating, it had begun to snow outside. The weather forecast had announced that there would be a massive snowstorm that night. It was the beginning of December and nearing Christmas. After dinner Tommy had written a letter to Santa Claus with the help of his parents. In the letter, Tommy had asked for a pair of skates, a hockey stick, a puck, and a Montreal Canadians hockey jersey for Christmas.
Tommy was in love with hockey. It fascinated him ever since he started watching the game on television. Every time the Montreal Canadians would play, he would always watch them play on the television. Every time he watched the Canadians play on television, he wished that he was the one in the Canadians hockey jersey gliding on the ice and scoring all the goals.
Tommy's father (Henry) had spoken to his wife (Julia) about buying the hockey equipment for their son and then he would teach Tommy how to play hockey on a pond that froze in the winter. The frozen pond wasn't that far away from where they lived. However, Julia had disagreed because she didn't think the ice would be solid enough for her husband and her son to play hockey on. Henry assured his wife that it was very safe to pay hockey on the frozen pond and that there was nothing at all to worry about. Julia still, however, disagreed. They kept on arguing for days about the subject until finally Julia gave up and allowed her husband to buy their son the hockey equipment and teach him how to play on the frozen pond. Henry instantly went to go buy the hockey equipment and his son's favorite hockey team jersey. Henry was so excited and couldn't wait until Christmas morning when Tommy would open up his gifts.
Christmas morning finally came and Tommy was the first to wake up.
