William Bradford Vs. John Smith

Although John Smith and William Bradford lived in the same tiem period and were both adventuring int a new world, their writing style differed greatly. John Smith wrote his accounts in a simplistic story form. Everyting went in order, and it was well organized. This made the writing intersting and more understandable than Bradford's. Even though Smith's word choice was more challenging, and the senteces were long and drawn out, it all wen together well. Smith's adventures were written in an easy and exaggerated way because he hoped that one day he would become famous from his stories.
Bradford, on the other hand, wrote only to keep track of what was happening on the Pilgrim's trip and how their voyage was going. Bradford used easier words, and he didn't have a set format like John Smith because he wasn't trying to get everyone to read what had happened. He only wanted to keep a record of what occurred, not become famous. Also, Bradford's style was much different than Smith's. Bradford's book Of Plymouth Plantation is more of a gathering of facts than an actural story.
What Bradford chose to write about in his book was extremely different from Smith's writings. Smith wrote about the ordeal of crossing the vast Atlantic Oceand and stories aabout him saving the day, while Of Plymouth Plantation focused more on building a settlement in the New World, and how idfficult it actually was. Smith discussed the effort put for to survive in the New World and the difficulties he and his crew encountered while living among Native Americans. Unlike Smith, Bradford chose to live among the Native Americans peacefully for the most part and trad and converse with them, thus constructing a relationship which would benefit Bradford and his crew greatly in years to come.
Even though John Smith worte his story to better his image, in hopes of becoming celebrated one day, he wrote the better story.
