Opinion of Montgomery County Taketh Away

The issue behind this case is that the Montgomery County school system has made changes to a very important quote in the Declaration of Independence. By doing this, they have cause an uproar due to them teaching this falsely worded quote to the fifth graders of that county.
On the schools side of the argument, they were trying to abolish the presence of the writer's ability to overlook slavery. They wrote about all men being born with "certain unalienable rights," but continued to take these rights away from slaves. The school system thought this would teach the children that the writers did not care about the slaves even though the quote said the slaves are as equal as us. This can cause confusion at this state of the student's life.
With the other side of the argument, the people want the students to learn the correct version of the quote. The school system is trying to hinder the students intellectual ability by giving them incorrect information. History is not something that can, or should be, changed by rearranging the words to benefit everyone's beliefs. The Declaration of Independence was written with one goal in mind. This goal was to become free from England's rule, not single groups of people out. If the kids are too young to handle the quotes in their entirety, then they should be taught at a later state in their life. It's hard on the kids when they learn it one way only to later find out they learned wrong.
In my opinion, the kids should be taught the way it was originally written. As a citizen of the United States, they have the "unalienable right" to learn history the way it happened and how it was written. We should not have people picking everything apart under a microscope. Most students would not ponder on the fact that they singled out slaves when writing that sentence. They would just know that they are born free by God and have the same liberties as everyone else.
