Palestine versus Israel

            
             From all the material that I have read I can see where both sides are coming from and, I shall do my best to be as impartial as I can and to let you decide on who you think is right or wrong. I will start off by giving you a brief modern history of Palestine and Israel, and I will try to give both sides of the argument so that they are both represented. Finally I will list a few possible ways that I believe that the problem could be fixed. Now before I begin to talk about the history of both peoples I think I should first define a term that I will be saying quite a lot. Zionist: A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century, in response to growing anti-Semitism, and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel (http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=Zionist).
             The Palestine and Israel history is one that goes back along way and tends to lean heavily on the biblical side. The web site that I visited http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/palestine/background.html, http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/go.asp?MFAH00kt0, and http://www.cactus48.com/truth.html had a fairly decent history account on the Palestine's and Israel's! All the problems basically start with the birth of the Balfour Declaration of 1917, where Britain promised the Jews a Jewish "national home" in Palestine. This promise was subsequently incorporated in the mandate conferred on Britain by the League of Nations in 1922. During their mandate (1922-48) the British found their contradictory promises to the Jewish and Palestinian communities difficult to reconcile. The Zionists envisaged large-scale Jewish immigration, and some spoke of a Jewish state constituting all of Palestine. Palestinians, however, rejected Britain's right to promise their country to a third party and feared dispossession by the Zionists. Fear of Jewish domination was the principal cause of the Arab revolt that broke out in 1936 and continued intermittently until 1939.
