The course of the Competition will include "Before & After" comparisons of contestants' appearances before and after their makeovers.
The panel of judges will consist of an informed representative of each Sponsor, image designers, cultural personalities, and relevant local leaders. The Sponsor representative, in critiquing and advising contestants, will be afforded many opportunities to define Sponsor's corporate image, and explain the proper use of Sponsor products.
Audience members will be highly involved in the competition, voting for the "Sponsor's Audience Choice Award," enjoying eligibility to win the "Sponsor's Lucky Audience Member Award," and receiving promotional items throughout the Competition.
Contestants aged 18 years or older can enlist for the Competition by mail or in person, beginning January 1998, for a fee of 30 yuan. When registering, each contestant will complete a brief questionnaire about their use of beauty and fashion products, which information will be provided to Sponsors. .
The Beauty Fax Competition will be publicized in the TV, radio, and print media, including but not limited to:.

-- Xinmin Evening Newspaper.
-- Shanghai Fashion Magazine.
-- Eastern Magazine.
-- Cable TV Newspaper.
Awards will be given in Sponsors' names, for:.
-- "Sponsor's Best Personal Image Award" (the Grand Prize).
-- "Sponsor's Best Clothing and Accessories Award".
-- "Sponsor's Best Make-Up Award".
-- "Sponsor's Best Hairstyle Award".
-- "Sponsor's Best Deportment Award" (based on culture and etiquette quiz).
-- "Sponsor's Audience Choice Award" (based on audience voting).
-- "Sponsor's Lucky Audience Member Award".
The Competition marks Beauty Fax' transition to a new, hipper format, reminiscent of MTV Asia and Channel V. International production standards and a cutting-edge image will characterize this new format. For the duration of the Competition, a foreign Technical Consultant will be engaged, to advise on program packaging, production and post-production, with the intent of reinforcing Beauty Fax' reputation as the clear standout among beauty and fashion shows in Shanghai, and on the entire mainland.
