Bob Hansen


            
             Robert Philip Hanssen, born April 18, 1944 the only child of Howard and Vivian Hanssen. He grew up in Norwood Park on the western edge of Chicago. He went to Norwood Park Elementary School. He was considered different and had very few friends. He later went o William Howard Taft High School. One of his hobbies during High School was using his HAM radio. He graduated in 1962. After graduation he enrolled at Knox College, 200 miles southwest of Chicago. It was a college that made you work hard. 77% of his class scored over 1200 on the SAT. In the fall of 1966 Bob Hanssen enrolled at Northwestern University Dental School. It was a demanding 4 year program. He tried to enlist in Naval Dental Program in 1967, but he did not pass his eye test and classified 4F, his eye site meant that there was no chance he would have to go to Vietnam. At the same time his girlfriend Bonnie agreed to marry him. They were married on August 10, 1968. The ceremony was held at St. Paul of the Cross, a large Roman Catholic church. In Bonnie's hometown of Parkridge Illinois. In 1969 Bob enrolled in Northwestern School of Business which offered a 2 year MBA program. In 1971 he graduated with a degree in Accounting and Information Systems. He got a job in Chicago as Junior Auditor for Touche Ross and Company one of the nations big accounting firms. He salary was $10,000 and increased to $12,000. In 1972 he signed up for the Chicago Police department. He kept that job until 1975 when he applied and got a job with the F.B.I. He moved around the F.B.I for several years until he was finally got to stay in Vienna, Virginia. They enrolled their daughter Jane age 9 and daughter age 7 at the elementary affiliated with "Our Lady of Good Council" their local parish. He started working in the Washington D.C. branch of the F.B.I. During the heat of the "Cold War". He worked in a special division which specialized in finding Russian spies in America.
