Scarlet Letter Imitation

The parents had not done their office.
Now, however, the parents questioning of their son Donnie, on the night of his court hearing, had given them a new theme of relection, and held up to him a picture that appeared worthy of any effort and sacrifice for its attainment. The parents ahd noticed the intense misery beneath which the young man struggled, orm to speak more accurately, had ceased to struggle. The parents saw the young man on the path to evil, if he had not already stepped onto it. It was impossibnle to doubt, that, whatever painful efficacy there might be in this secret string of remorse, a deadlier venom had been infused to it by what was once thought a good friend. The unknown enemy had been at his side for his entire life, under the semblance of a nice young man, and had availed himself of the opportunities to bring Donnie down morally. The parents couldnt not help but wonder if Donnie's situation had been caused by a defect of love and compassion on their part, in allowing their son to be thrown into such horrible surroundings, and nothing positive to be hoped. Their only justification lay in the fact, that she had been able to discern no method of saving Donnie from a darker situation than had already overwhelmed themselves, except by revealing the true intentions of Donnie's former friend. Uner that impulse, they had made their choice, the more wretched alternative of the two. They determined to redeem their bad parenting, so far as it might yet be possible. Strengthened by years of hard times temselves, they felt no longer inadequate to cope with Donnie's problems, as the many nights previous when the talks in the bedroom led to nothing but yelling. The parents had climbed their way, since then, to a higher level of parenting. Donnie, on the other hand had been softened by his parents renewed compassion.
In fine, the parents finally resolved to have a loving household, and do what might be in their power to rescue Donnie from the suffering he had encountered.
