To Kill A Mockingbird

In the novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" some characters were explained to be as outcasts. Walter Cunningham, Boo Radley, Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell are outcasts who nevertheless gain sympathy in "To Kill a Mockingbird". .
Walter Cunningham manages to gain sympathy in the novel because in chapter 2, when he is introduced, Scout explains that his family is poor. " They never took anything off anybody, they get along on what they have. They don't have much, but they get along on it." (pg20). The teacher tries to give him money because he forgot his lunch but he does not want to take it because Walter knows he cannot pay back the teacher since he has no money at all. " Walter hasn't got a quarter at home to bring you, and you can't use any stovewood." (pg21). For lunch, Jem invites Walter to have lunch at the house. While Walter was eating lunch, he had poured syrup all over his food because he didn't have the luxury of having syrup since he was poor. "Walter poured syrup on his vegetables and meat with a generous hand." (pg24). .
Boo Radley manages to gain sympathy in the novel because instead of attending the industrial school and receiving the best secondary school education. Mr. Radley convinced the judge to release Boo because he thought it was a disgrace. " it was no prison and it was no disgrace. Mr. Radley thought it was." (pg10). So they locked Boo in the courthouse basement but was sent back home because if Mr. Radley didn't take him back, Boo would die from the mold from the damp. "Miss Stephanie Crawford said some of the town council told Mr. Radley that if he didn't take Boo back, Boo would die of mold from the damp." (pg11). Since Boo was locked up in the house, he had no friends to play with or anyone to talk to so watching Jem and Scout through the window was his only entertainment, and after Mr. Radley covered the hole in the tree with cement, Boo couldn't leave items for Jem and Scout to find.
