Another aspect learned about house elves is that they cannot speak about their masters, especially secrets. This is the accepted action of a house elf by all, even elves themselves, and leads Winky to not tell Harry or anyone else about the situation with Crouch and his son. The horrendous situation of elves causes Harry to miss out on another chance to be forewarned of the evil plot for his death by Lord Voldemort with the help of his enslaved servants.
Lord Voldemort's hold over Wormtail leads to a lot of trouble for everyone in the Wizard World. It is Lord Voldemort's wish to enslave every wizard and witch gaining domination of all. Wormtail had the bad luck of accidentally finding Voldemort after he had been supposedly dead. Voldemort at once overpowered him and forced Wormtail to be his loyal servant. Wormtail has no choice, even when he is threatened and accused of wanting to leave his master; he lies by replying, "[m]y Lord! I - I have no wish to leave you, none at all" (14). Voldemort promises Wormtail he won't hurt him if he serves him but is nonetheless threatened into enslavement by harsh words. This enslavement results in the capture and torture of Bertha Jorkins, which then results in the vital information leaked to Voldemort regarding one of his faithful servants being imprisoned from him and the upcoming Triwizard Tournament at Hogwarts. Voldemort then concocts an evil plan wherein he"ll be able to regain his flesh, bone, and power again. It's also his plan to kill Harry Potter for good and rid the world of Mud Bloods, non-pureblood wizards or witches. Voldemort's plan unfolds as the story progresses and Harry is brought before him out of the reach of help from anyone. He commands Wormtail to collect blood from Harry so that he may become human again. The next part of reviving Voldemort requires Wormtail to do a horrible act, cut his own hand off. He unwillingly does this because of Voldemort's enslavement hold.
