            All quiet on the western front, originally a novel by Erich Maria Remarque. They have similarities and differences, but they both give us the same idea of the war as a fatal place, and any simple mistake may cost your life. This is shown several times in both the movie and the novel. In the movie it was shown in the long period of war that the movie represented, but in the novel it was all emotional. It made me think about the emotions of different peolpe towards the death of one person.
             I think Franz Kemmerich is the most memorable character. He had a special relationship with Paul. They were from the same town, further more they were really close friends. When Kemmerich died, Paul felt so much grief. I do not think he felt the same type of grief after that. In another point of view. Kat left a strong impression on most of the readers. He was a father or an older brother so the younger soldiers. He was their advisor. He told them and taught them what to do in times of danger. For example, when the new young recruits arrived. There was a really scared boy. Kat kept encouraging him and he lifted up his spirits. The movie was satisifying and adequate in presenting Kat as a caring father for those soldiers in need of help.
             In a comparison between the movie and the novel. I think they are both equal or may be the novel has a slight advantage in presenting and establishing the horrors of the fierce war. The movie backed-up some examples form the novel. By using really loud sounds of bombing the movie showed an example of how a shell shock might happen. Almost half of the movie was scenes from the war and what happens on the battle field. The advantage the novel has is that it makes the reader think in a more exciting way than the movie does. I think the novel is more effective and it reaches the readers more than the movie does to the watchers. An example would be Gerard Duval's death by Paul. This showed how harsh the war can be that you might have to kill a father or a husband in order to survive.
