The philosophical ideas that originated through Confucianism were founded by Confucius or K"ung Fu-tzu (which is translated as "Grand Master K"ung). The birth of the society that sheltered and nurtured such a philosophy was China (however, over a period of time, it spread through out East Asia). Although Confucianism has sometimes been called or regarded to as a religion of East Asia and/or China, it was clearly stated by the founder himself (Confucius), "We do not know yet how to serve men, how then, can we know about serving the spirits?" Therefore, there is defiantly more to the Confucian society than the upholding of religious or ethical ideas beliefs.
At the core of the Confucian system, is humanity (or as they refer to it, jen). To Confucius and his believers, jen is the factor that distinguishes a human from an animal; it is the pure essence of humanity. The conservancy of ones jen, is considered a higher relevancy than the preservation of ones life. Jen in itself is made up of other qualities which are very important to those that consist in the Confucian community. Jen consists of all those qualities which are part of a "moral" life; making one's words conform to one's deeds, ching , or "reverence," "seriousness," or "the sense of awe in the face of one's obligations to others.", and other acts of morality. The full development of jen is exemplified only by the chun-tzu or "superior man" (literally translated into "son of a prince". A person's worth is measured by the extent of his/her development of jen. The heart of Confucianism consists mostly of the development and achievement of full jen.
Branching out from the ideal lifestyle of the achievement of the development of ones jen, are other beliefs and practices. To the followers of Confucianism believe that all humanity is good and always striving to be better, loyal and live upright. The focus compressed within their practices is focused largely on comprehensive truth rather than the everyday logic.
