Arranged marriages, CANADIAN

            In Canadian Society today, Arranged marriages are not common in our daily life. Love is meant to be found not arranged. The point of love is to find that special someone whereby you will spend the rest of your life with. Arranged marriages is the process whereby your parents find the special someone for you. They are the ones who decide if she is fit for the position. This process which are so the norm in India. However when I hear (Arranged Marriages), two process come to mind. One which is what I have explained that your brought together through your parents and the family of the girl. However the other process that has now become a very popular is Public Dating shows, for example, ( The Bachelor, Mr. Personality ect.).
             I couldn't think of many Canadians who would enjoy the idea of being put together with someone you don't even know. In a relationship you must feel attracted to the person you love in order to maintain a long term relationship. Obviously its not all about looks but you must be some what attractive to that someone. The thought of having an arranged marriage with someone you are not attracted to seems out of the question for me, and I am sure I can find many other people who share the same opinion as me.
             Dating shows on the other hand are different and better. First of all if you see the woman they put on these shows, your off to a pretty good start. However the part that comes in which is very different from Parental Arrangement is that you have the choice later on if you still want to be with this person or not. .
             The two areas where Arranged marriages are common is in Japan and in India. In Japan Arranged weddings account for 25 to 50 percent of the total number of marriages. Even in these areas the figures are decreasing in the number of Arranged Weddings. This is proof that Arranged marriages are undesirable in Canada. Its more than likely this system would fail in Canada.
