In this article, there is the concern about castles from the middle ages, and when and how, if ever, they will be restored. There is the idea that if they are sold, the people or organizations that own them will keep them in shape, and renovate them. In fact, in the federal state of Brandenburg, 10 castles were put on the market. This is in the effort to have them renovated in order to preserve a part of humankinds" past. The reason that they must be sold, and that the state government cannot renovate them is all strung back to the lack of money. The state government hopes, that if they sell these majestic castles, they will be renovated and preserved. However, even though this is all in the interest of keeping a part of history, the public is showing a lack of interest in the castles. Only one castle sold last year. Once again, this is all due to the lack of money, as well as the fact that the castles must remain open to the public. It is ever so important that these castles are renovated so that they are here for future generations to admire and to learn from. But because of the amazing price that comes with all of these renovations and such, the castles do not seem to have much longer of a future. They are slowly decaying and rotting away. One has to wonder if the value of the castles could possibly be looked upon as larger than the value of money, and if perhaps, the people all over the world, as well as those in Germany would consider donating a small sum of money to go towards the renovations of these castles. It may be a small price to pay in order to preserve our history for future generations. This relates to what we are doing in class, because we are currently studying the Germanic invasions, and these castles are from that time period, and were built in what is now Germany, during the years in which the invaders of the Germanic tribes began to settle down. If you think about this, it makes preserving the castles even more important.
