             In the late 1990s, scientists have suggested that an increasing consumption of meat could be a significant factor in producing a new global food crisis. Many people in developing countries aren't receiving enough meat while developed countries like the United States has plenty.
             Most people in developing countries would rather grow food than raise livestock. Raising animals requires much more land and it takes much longer. Growing cash crops is much more efficient. Farmers can grow food pretty much all year long. Raising animals might take as long as three years. So most people choose to farm instead. Most developing countries are agrarian based. Developing countries suffer from this because since nobody wants to raise livestock, the country has to import all of its meats, which is very expensive. The developing countries don't have enough money to import all of the meat. This meat shortage causes major problems such as widespread famine and malnutrition. The mortality rate increases from the food shortage.
             Developed countries have government services that help the poor. Most of these developing countries don't have the same government services as other developed countries do. They don't have food stamps or soup kitchens like we do here. In developing countries, governments haven't started to address the issue of food shortages. The increase consumption of meat could be a significant factor in producing a new global food crisis.

A meat shortage could cause many serious problems such as an increase in the mortality rate and widespread famine. The governments of these developing countries should pay attention to these issues before they get out of hand.
