Life of Pi By: Yann Martel

There are many religions practiced throughout the world today. With all the religions, the three most practiced are Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity. These religions, with their many differences, are usually indigenous to a specific area or continent and seem to have no relation. A young boy of just sixteen loved God, and he could not choose between these three religions. There was not a soul in the world that could convince him that he had to choose. He believed they are all the same in the end because they all refer to one superior God. Pi Patel, the son of a zookeeper and native of India, is a practicing Islam, Hindu, and Christian, and he loves each religion just the same.
Pi Patel was born and raised as a Hindu in India. His family was not very strong religious people, but Pi, with his love for stories and his curiosity, became attached to Christianity and Islam as well. He did not understand why he had to choose between the three. His curiosity kept him wanting more from each religion. By learning about each religion, he decided that each religion worships on superior God, so it should not make any difference as to what religion you practice. His insight was well beyond his years and it was the mentors that were in his life that were responsible for expanding his young mind and teaching him what he wanted to learn.
Pi had a good friendship with his teacher, Mr. Kumar. One day, he saw him at his father's zoo. After talking to him that day, he learned that he did not believe in any form of God. This was a complete shock for him, because it never occurred to him that someone would not believe in God. This was very confusing for him but he was very interested and wanted to learn more about being an atheist. He would never choose this path of course, because his love for God could not be broken. In his heart, he knows that God is always there, no matter what religion that he practices.
