Macbeth

Macbeth: Plotting King or Manipulated Pawn?.
In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare we see Macbeth first and last as a fighting solider yet in between we closely follow his thoughts and actions. What is your final impression of Macbeth? Is he a tragic hero or a villain? .
Macbeth was a tragic hero. His greatness led to his obsession and eventually to his death. The play illustrates his rise and fall through a tragic story of a man that fights within himself. At the beginning, he was a man with a conscience and a mind. But after the turn of events he becomes weak. Although he takes actions that led to his downfall I believe that he is not completely responsible for the choices he made. Macbeth is extremely passionate about becoming king but in the first act, his motivation comes from his wife. Macbeth begins the play with no power and has a little control; hence Lady Macbeth had all the power and most of the control. And it was Lady Macbeth's control over her husband that led him to destruction and murder; It was Lady Macbeth that comes up with the plan to kill Duncan because she knew that Macbeth wouldn't do it because of his nature. "He is to full o the milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way (I. iv.15-). She also lowered his self-esteem so that he would do as she requested; she says such things as "When you durst do it, then you were a man (I. vii.50-). She Expects Macbeth to follow her orders, but when he becomes indecisive about killing the king she labels him a coward when she says, Art thou afeard to be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire (Act one, scene 7, line 35 onwards). At the beginning the three witches prophesies his destiny. When they meet with Macbeth, they greet him first as the Thane of Glamis, then as the Thane of Cawdor and then as King. The moment Macbeth hears this; he is confused but curious why these witches had called him King. Macbeth's goal was not to be king he would have remained being the Thane of Cawdor and continued to be loyal.
