A look at Judaism


            Judaism has been around for centuries. As Judaism progressed throughout time it has seen many changes. Changes occurred in race, culture, religion and nationality. .
             Most people would instinctively say that Judaism is a religion. This Statement is false, Judaism cannot be a religion because some people identify themselves as Jews, and would have nothing to do with religion. Some people might even say that Judaism is a race. Race is a genetic distinction, and refers to people with shared ancestry and shared genetic traits. Jews come from many different ancestries so Judaism is not a race. Others may argue that Judaism is a culture, this is also false. Jews have lived in many parts of the world and have developed many different traditions. There are certainly cultural traits and behaviors that are shared by many Jews that make them feel more comfortable with other Jews. Jews in many parts of the world share many of those cultural aspects. However, that culture is not shared by all Jews all over the world, and people who do not share that culture are no less Jews because of it. Thus, Judaism must be something more than a culture or an ethnic group. The notion of Judaism as a nation has been abandoned many years ago due to Jews living in different countries who are loyal to their country of origin. Jews feel a sense of connectedness to each other that many find hard to explain, define, or even understand. Judaism can be taught of as a civilization. This notion of Judaism as a civilization encompasses many of the ideas such as race, religion, nationality, and culture. As a civilization, Jews share common ideas, .
