Desdemona is a daughter to Brabantio and wife to Othello who is loyal, faithful, and passionately loves her husband Othello. She dies because she blindly stays faithful to Othello and cannot understand why he believes her to be an adulteress.
She is stronger than Othello believes her to be, and is not the private, withdrawn, meek woman he would ideally like her to be. .
Cassio is Othello's choice for his new Lieutenant and also his friend, Othello is led to believe that Cassio has had an affair with Desdemona, though Cassio has only honorable intentions toward Desdemona. .
Iago is a soldier under Othello's command and an ancient, a position below lieutenant. He was passed over for the lieutenant position in favor of Cassio which and this draws out his evil nature. In the opening scene, he announces his intention to avenge the wrong done him by Othello and Cassio. .
Iago and Roderigo are talking, and Iago tells Cassio that Othello has passed him over for a promotion and Cassio, another soldier, has received it.
             .
Iago is young and disloyal; He is immoral, but very perceptive, keen, and able to manipulate people into falling for the traps he sets without them being aware.
