To me a saint is a person who does the will of God despite his or her own want to follow her own. Another characteristic that a saint should have is humbleness, this characteristic is very important in the life of a Saint because it enables her to become selfless in order to serve others. I say serve others because that is what Jesus did. He served his community, he healed the sick, and he washed the feet of his disciples. Jesus is the prime example of humbleness and if anyone is to be called a Saint then she should do all for the glory of God and not for her own glory just as Jesus did.
The saint that I have chosen is St. Teresa of Avila. Her full name was Teresa Cepeda Sanchez Davila y Ahumada. St, Teresa was born in Avila, Old Castile on March 28th, 1515. She was the third child of Don Alonso Sanchez de Cepeda by and his second wife, Doña Beatriz Davila y Ahumada, who died when Teresa was sent for her education with the Augustinian nuns at Avila. After eight-teen months Teresa decided to leave the convent and stay with her father and other relatives because of an illness that she had. She grew especially close to her uncle who encouraged her study of religion and St. Jerome's letters. During the coarse of her youth she began to get more interested in the religious field but her father wouldn't hear it. Teresa was so determined that on November 25,1535 she ran away from her fathers home to the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation of Avila. Because Teresa made this radical decision her father adapted and accepted her way of life. Some accomplishments of St. Teresa of Avila were her The account of her spiritual life contained in the "Life written by herself St. Teresa, she founded the convent of Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Primitive Rule of St. Joseph at Avila (24 Aug., 1562), and after six months obtained permission to take up her residence there. Four years later she received the visit of the General of the Carmelites, John-Baptist Rubeo , who approved of what she had done for the foundation of other convents of friars as well as nuns.
