Spirituality in Artist and their Works


" This painting challenges and disturbs the viewer by the artist's choice of colour and method of thick painting. The dramatic black, yellow, red and white composition suggests both a natural and industrial wasteland. The unidentified images and fierce explosions depict one of Booth's nightmarish dreams, which seem to represent the end of the world, as we know it. The remains being the final images of a "corrupt" world. The forces behind the mountain peaks draw the audience in to an area, which contradicts the foreground. The grotesque images which stare out at us represent how Booth connects his beliefs spiritually with his works as he attempts to express to the audience, the bleak images that seem so much apart of him and he constantly has to endure. Some critics suggest that it is Booth himself who stands with his back to us, mesmerised by the scene. This could be Booth's attempt to physically connect with his spiritual side through his artwork. .
             Booth's paintings suggest that he perceives that the human race is on the edge of another dark age. .
             Tracey Emin has been labelled as the British bad - girl of art because of the controversy behind her art practice.
             Emin relates her art works to her beliefs, motives and ideas through written and verbal text, pictures, photos, and installation art and short films. However, Emin's most influential aspect comes from personal experiences. This enables her to freely express herself by creating self - relating, "confessional" artwork. .
             During the process of creating her pieces, Emin allows herself to connect spiritually with her work, which provides her with a means of self expression and indirect therapy as she discusses her personal experiences which have left a lifelong impact on her. .
             Emin's narration of autobiographical experiences through her works making the audience consider that her artworks embody an unmediated life experience. Her discussion of experiences such as being raped at 13, teenage promiscuity, and botched abortions are expressed in her art practice and demonstrate just how she relates her theories of art to her own beliefs, ideas, motives and personal experiences.
