Suffering, Death and Resurrection

Explain what Christians believe about the death of Jesus.
Jesus said he had to suffer and die because he had been sent on a mission of self-sacrifice. He came to serve and to sacrifice his life to benefit people. This idea is made clear in Mark 10:41-45, Jesus says "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people" .
Jesus tells his disciples many times that he has to die. Perhaps because his disciples do not want Jesus" fate to come true they had to struggle to come to terms with it and had to realise why he has to die. Disciples still have to come to terms with why Jesus had to die today.
In the Gospel passage Mark 14:21 (from the Passover Meal) Jesus is explaining that he will die as prophesised by the "Old Testament", " the Son of Man will die as the Scriptures say he will-.
Jesus died at the time of the Passover Festival. This is why many Christians argue that he sacrificed himself for them, because at a Passover Festival they would keep the covenant by worshipping God- and especially by the animal sacrifices. .
Christians believe in some sense Jesus died to save us (all from eternal life in hell) and he opened the way back to God and everlasting life for us. The idea that Jesus" death puts everything right between God and the world is called the atonement. Jesus explained to his disciples why he has to die, "This is my blood which is poured out for many, my blood which seals God's covenant." Mark 14:24. In this passage Jesus explains that his blood is poured out for everyone so that they may live on in happiness and some would say that by doing this it seals the "gap" between man and God (the gap being sin). The Bible teaches that sin separates people from God.
Christians believe that Jesus made it possible to have life after death, in Heaven because of his sacrifice. Christians believe it was God's plan and that the death of Jesus was for the benefit of humankind.
