Hull Haven

The Hull Haven has been an important trading area for hundreds of years, but especially in the second half of the 18th Century. To what extent does the study of the site and other sources support this?.
The Hull Haven has been an important trading area for hundreds of years, but especially in the second half of the 18th Century. There is a lot of evidence to prove this. There is the evidence from the site itself and from the various sources from the time. I will use this evidence to support this quote.
A reason Hull has been such an important trading area is because its location is ideal in the fact that the river has many other important industrial cities leading on from it. These cities are connected to the River Humber, the River Ouse, the River Aire, the River Don and the River Trent, which allowed trade to be extended throughout the country to important cities such as York, Sheffield and Nottingham. Another reason Hull was ideal for import and export is because it faces Europe, which makes importing and exporting goods to European countries much easier.
From the 14th Century map of Hull, it is already obvious that Hull has established itself as a trading dock. This is shown by the number of ships in the river, and the cranes on the dock, which look to be lifting cargo on and off the ships. Also this map suggests that Hull was an important trading area because there has been a wall built around the city, which was built by Edward T to protect the city along with canons. Although this map is a useful source of evidence, I do not think it is very reliable. This is because the map isnt drawn accurately. For example the buildings are drawn in 3D, theres no compass and there isnt a scale.
After coming to the conclusion that the 14th Century map wasnt very reliable and accurate, although it did prove to a certain extent that Hull was important for trade, I looked for a more reliable source.
