Gettysburg

The Gettysburg Address is appropriate for the September 11 ceremony for many reasons. It reflects the emotions felt during terror attack and accurately describes our mission of preventing another terrorist attack for future generations.
It states in the Gettysburg Address that "it is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here." They bring up the phrase "unfinished work" which to me means that we should not fall or break apart because of this incident. I feel that we have to pull together and unite into a stronger more unified nation and face these problems together. They also mention the phrase " the great task," which to me symbolizes our mission to prevent another attack. We have to work together to protect our beloved nation from another horrible incident like this.
The Gettysburg Address that "we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain." I firmly agree that innocent people should not be murdered without a reason. In my eyes, these people are considered heroes because they have made us realize that we are not always safe. We should always be on our guard. America is the sleepy giant that has awakened by these attacks.
In this address, it states that "we have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this." This to me is very surprising that people back then would have the same ideas of a memorial like us today. I have heard in the news that people are thinking of building a memorial to honor and remember those who perished.
I was amazed that this address can be used today even for this incident. The same beliefs and feelings have carried down even till this day. Let us work together and not let this lead to bloodshed like the civil war. Let this not tear our nation apart in hatred like the civil war.
