Asian American Studies, Life of Moon Lee

Two months of up and down on the sea, Moon Lee arrived in American land as a free labor. .
Life is always a lesson, as soon as Moon Lee got here, he realized this place wasnt as he imagined, and that most of those beautiful stories he heard about this place was overstated. First of all, all white skin people here speak a different language and treated he like a prisoner. He started working as a bus boy in a restaurant in Chinatown, which didnt pay very well, but offered free meals and a place to sleep. As a new immigrant who doesnt speak a word of English, he worked 10 hours a day, and studied English at night. After 1 years of hard working and studying, Moon was able to speak some English and hence was promoted to be a waiter. He finally had money left to bank after sending home half of his earning every month. He missed his parents and sisters so much and yet hesitated to visit them in China, because he hadnt paid off his debt. .
After couple years as a restaurant waiter, Lee tried to look for other higher paying jobs outside of Chinatown. But during the time of the 1924 immigration act, institutional racism was everywhere. When he walked into a company people would spit at him, called him names like rat, chink, telling him to go back to Chinatown, the manager judged him with his racial uniform and told him, "we dont want no china boy here, we would hire a white man with no qualification over you at anytime." After 2 months of begging and getting turned away, Moon finally landed a job in a railroad company that promises to pay 40 bucks a month, but the boss thought since Moon is a Chinese, 30 bucks a month is enough. Although being cut off 25% in salary, it was still better than what the restaurant owner would offer, so he started on the new job.
