Lewis structures

The Lewis structure for each molecule was found and the VSEPR model was sketched. For molecules that didn't have any lone pairs like CH4,BF3,CO2,CH20 and PF5 the angles and shapes were similar in all the models that were used. For molecules that contained five different atoms like CH4 and the NH4 that gave a tetrahedral shape with 109.5 degree angle between them. For a linear molecule like CO2 and HCN that gave a 180 degree between the atoms. The BF3 gave a 120 degree angle which gave a trigonal planar shape like the BrF3. But the BrF3 shape with the lone pairs gave a trigonal bipyrimadal, which the computer is unable to sketch, but since there were two lone pairs the opposite forces the lone pairs cause resulted in a regular trigonal planar shape. And CH2O was also a trigonal planar on the VSEPR model but the computer gave a slightly larger angle between the O-C-H bond which was probably a result of the double bond between the C and the O. For the NH3 and the SO3 they both contained 3 atom to atom bond and one atom lone pair bond. This resulted in a trigonal pyramid shape but with angle smaller then the normal tetrahedral shape of 109.5 and the computer confirmed this by giving a 107.6 degrees between the atoms. Since the P is under the third row the PF5 was allowed to exceed the octet rule which gave a trigonal bipyramid shape with angles of 90 degrees and 120 degrees between the middle atoms the computer was unable to sketch this because of the programs limitation in calculating these many atoms in a molecules bonds. For the ICl5 the structure shape with the extra lone pair is a Octahedral but because of that lone pair the molecular structure was called a square bipyrimadal with angles less than the original.
