THE POETRY OF ROBERT FROST GIVES US FRESH INSIGHTS.
Dramatic yet enlightening the poetry of Robert Frost has given us deeper meanings and better understandings on our view of the world around us. Diverging roads, which one shall we take? The known or the unknown? The poem THE ROAD NOT TAKEN, shows us the importance of making decisions. Our life changes with every decision made by us. Nature - taken for granted by us humans. We are given the beauty of nature but we are also given the loneliness of nature in the same poem, STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING. The cruelty, struggle and hardship of life in the twentieth century are brought out in the poem OUT,OUT-.
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN who is on a specified route. The road then diverges into two. He is not sure which road to take " long I stood-.
He finally decides to take " the one less traveled by-. He being a traveler wanted to take both but could not- "And sorry I could not travel both". In this poem Robert Frost uses imagery to give us the feeling as if we are in the travelers shoes. The word "road" in the poem is very symbolic because it also means a journey. The traveler traveled on one of the roads and therefore went on a journey. It was a decision to travel on that road just as a decision which we make in life that can change things.
" I took the one less traveled by.
And that has made all the difference.".
The line -" to where it bent in the undergrowth" suggests to us that when we take a journey or make a decision we cannot see the consequences of it beforehand. Only after we have journeyed or made the decision can we then see the consequences. In this poem Robert Frost has given us fresh insights on the decisions we make and the paths we travel by.
Nature is a beautiful gift given to us by our creator. Nature may be wonderful but may also be lonely at times. The loneliness of nature is brought out in the poem STOPPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING.
