Want to know what Walmart and this years fundraiser have in common? Well, Sam Walton, of course! Businessman Sam Walton is the owner and CEO of Walmart stores across the nation. His business strategies are essential to providing good advice on how to run a business, or in our case, a fundraiser. There are 10 strategies on his list, and quite a few are applicable to the goal we are working towards. Two of them in specific are committing ones" self to the business, and having strong communication with regards to everything that goes on.
First of all, committing yourself to the business is key for being a success. Walton was quoted as saying, "If you love your work, you"ll be out there every day trying to do the best you can, and pretty soon everybody around will catch the passion from you - like a fever". He said that "passion" is what drives one to reach their intended goal. Whether its learned or you"re born with it, this key quality is needed in order to thrive in the business world. With regards to a fundraiser, committing yourself to the goal of raising money is the most important step to take before you do anything. If this senior class is not committed to raising money, what's going to happen? Cash will be low. Thus, its imperative to want to reach the goal being set for the fundraiser, and the only way that's going to happen is to commit to it and have passion for it.
The second successful business strategy is to communicate. Walton said, "The more they (business associates) know, the more they"ll understand. The more they understand, the more they"ll care. Once they care, there's no stopping them." Knowledge is power, and is gained through communication. Fundraising can only become a successful venture when there is enough talking and listening between members. In order to get things done, everyone needs to work together as a team and impart information to each other well.
