Turning Point

One of the happiest as well as the saddest week of my life is when my eighth grade class went to Mexico. .
We left for Mexico over Spring Break. We stayed there for nine wonderful days, two of which were used for traveling. We drifted up to the island where we would spend the eight days as a whole class. We were all in complete utter shock, amazement and heaven. The atmosphere was so exotic and plush, that right away we all knew it was going to be a life changing experience. We had to wade through the water to get to shore, because the boat could not dock. The water was to shallow. The water was cold on our legs and tired feet. I wanted to go swimming right then and there, but we had to unload the boat. There were bare footed native children waiting or us on the shore-line. We smile back at the eager children with respect and appreciation. We then all retreated to the coolness of the crisp white sheets of our beds with anticipation for the next days to come. We all could not wait to see the island. It was going to be a great spring break for us all. I"m sure we all had dreams of the beach and sun. .
We all rose early the next morning, and went up to the main house and were greeted with fresh fruits from the island. We spent the days that followed in the sun; we also got to the other teens who were attending the local school. We had been writing to kids from the school for about one year. So finally we got to meet the real people behind all the letters. All the teens were really nice and we got to hang out the rest of our stay there. I know that none of us will forget the simple and humble people who appreciate what they have and take nothing for granted. The island had no motor vehicles. So everyone walked or rode horses and donkeys. But they are set in their beliefs. They are very proud people. Every morning the women wash down the sidewalks and sweep the hearths. The women are very modest they do not show very much skin and their hair is always clean and neatly pulled back.
