Death Of A Salesman

In this essay I am going to write about the relationship between Willy, Biff and Happy.
Biff is very special to Willy and reading through this book, Biff is Willy's favourite son.
             " Good work Biff".
Willy is always complimenting Biff, because Willy thinks that when Biff grows up then he would become very successful in his life as he has the most potential and he is also well liked by everyone making him very popular. Willy thinks popularity is one of the key skills to have to become very successful in life.
"Bernard is not well liked is he? That's just what I mean. Bernard can get the best marks in school, y"understand, but when he gets into the business world you are going to be five times ahead of him.".
Willy thinks popularity is the way to success. That's why Biff is his favourite son, as he thinks he has all the qualities of becoming a successful businessman. This bonds their relationship even tighter, and Willy always makes sure he has time to talk to Biff and spend time with him, leaving Happy feel like an outsider.
"I"m losing weight, you notice, Pop?".
Happy is always trying to attract his dad's attention away from Biff and towards him. The relationship between Willy and Happy is obscure and you don't really see Willy having a civilized conversation with him. Happy is always trying to please his dad, and trying to be more like Biff so Willy would give him as much attention as he does to Biff.
             "We"ll carry your bags, pop!".
Happy doesn't stand up for himself. Happy is trying to be whatever Willy wants him to be, but by doing that he has to "suck up" to him and please him. But Biff is being himself and doesn't try to attract his dad's attention on purpose so he would like him better, it is a natural relationship, which makes it even stronger because no one has to try to make it work, like Happy is doing. .
Another reason why Willy is acting the way he does towards his sons is because he is passing his lifestyle to Biff and Happy.
