Living w/o a father

I was about four when I found out that I had a father. I never knew I had one because it was always my mother and I , and I never asked her because it didn't seem to faze me. But one day It was bring your father to school well I was only in pre school then , but I wondered if I even had a father I know a man who kept sending me all kinds of gifts on Christmas and on other special holidays ,but I was to young to know who he was, I never even seen a picture of this man who was sending gifts, and my mother never told me who they were from just a very good friend of the family that what I remember her telling me every time I asked. My mom has told me stories about him once in awhile but not much, I guess it made her sad? But then that day when my teacher asked every student in the class room what there fathers do , everyone but me I couldn't understand why , so I asked. They told me that my mother advised me not to talk about him around me or ask me any questions about him. So that day I went home and asked my mother why she doesn't want me to know who my father is . And my mom answered " hunny you do have a father I just don't talk about him because he's in the Gulf war and if you knew that you might get scared". I didn't know what she was talking about. Well one day I told my mom that I wanted to know what my father looked like and hear his voice and see a picture or a video of him. She was shocked , so she went into the attic of our house and brought down 2 old boxes one full of pictures and the other full of old letter they wrote to each other over the years of dating. I started to cry when I saw my father I looked like him my curly brown hair my baby blue eyes and the same smile. My mother told me everything about him and how they met and what he does in the navy. .
The next day was bring your father into school day well since I didn't have a dad I brought a box full of pictures in , I told my whole class what my daddy did and I was proud of him to.
