NAFTA is free trade agreement between the United States, Canada, and Mexico. It was established for guidelines and keeping things fair in the market. NAFTA went into effect on January 1, 1994. I believe that NAFTA did benefit the U.S. in some areas, but not in all.
Because of NAFTA there has been an increase in job opportunities, especially for the Mexicans. In Mexico, the price for labor is much more cheaper than in the United States. For this reason the U.S. feels they can pay the Mexicans less for labor to save money. The Clinton administration, and the business community as a principle justification used the promise of new jobs for NAFTA. I think the increase in more jobs is beneficial because it gives more people the opportunity of getting a job so they can provide for there families. It has been argued that NAFTA has benefited Canada and Mexico more than the United States. Both the U.S. and Mexico have agreed that NAFTA is beneficial to the Mexican economy. It has caused businesses to move to Mexico, technology to transfer to Mexico, and has provided jobs for Mexicans. .
A little over a year after NAFTA went into effect there was a bill entitled the NAFTA Withdraw Act of 1995. By the public disagreement there was a proposal brought to the Congress to withdraw the United States form NAFTA. Representative DeFazio introduced this bill on January 13, 1995 in the House of Representatives. This bill has been passed down and has not yet been voted on. .
One of the main purposes of NAFTA was to increase jobs, and to better the economy. Everyone has a different say as to if NAFTA was beneficial to the United States or not. Some people say you won't see the effects of NAFTA until the year 2008. I believe it has helped in some ways just not liked we hoped for in the long run. .
