Off Shore oil Drillin

             OFF-SHORE OIL DRILLING .
The topic that I chose was dealing with Off Shore Oil-Drilling. I chose this topic because I am concern with the effect off shore oil drilling has on the environment, specially our ocean. If you were swimming one day on the beach and suddenly you feel something sticky and rubbery on you what would you do???? Well this is caused by spills resulting from oil drilling. Oil drilling has a big impact on our beaches and our ocean; this ruins the beach and kills a lot of our marine life. I think there should be stricter laws concerning oil drilling and certain regalements, which would lower the harm caused to the environment by this. In this essay I would be discussing the effects, and the disasters off shore oil drilling has caused to our environment and what is being done to prevent further harm to the environment. .
When oil spills its not a easy process to clean. 1st of all oil is a very thick substance and it spreads in a high velocity. When a oil spill happens # the oil spreads at Only ten minutes after a spill of 1 ton of oil, the oil can disperse over a radius of 50 m, forming a slick 10-mm thick. The slick gets thinner (less than 1 mm) as oil continues to spread, covering an area of 12km. This Is how fast oil can spread and how much of the ocean it can affect. When a spill happens it can spread a lot in a short amount of time depending on the wind and the currents of the ocean. An oil slick usually drifts in the same direction as the wind. While the slick thins, especially after the critical thickness of about 0.1 mm, it disintegrates into separate fragments that spread over larger and more distant areas. When spills happen they affect a lot of the ocean and the marine life this is why this has become such a huge environmental issue. An example of an oil spill is when in #Early on March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez tanker spilled nearly 11 million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound after grounding on a reef.
