To kill a mockingbird, atticus

Even though there is much injustice, there are also those who fight against it and try to make people understand that there are not differences between people. In To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Atticus Finch is that great person. This story takes place in 1930's, in Maycomb, Alabama. In a place full of discrimination between blacks and whites, Atticus tries to show his children, Scout and Jem, that blacks and whites are equal. He does this by defending Tom Robinson, a black man unjustly accused of raping a white girl. By being caring, just and wise, Atticus is a person that deserves respect.
Atticus demonstrates to be a caring man by valuing his cook, Calpurnia, and telling Scout the importance of to go to school. Calpurnia is a black who services the family since Jem was born. She was more than a cook, she was like the mother that the children didn't have; but even so, Alexandra, Atticus" sister, wants to fire her because she thinks that Calpurnia does not take the enough care of the children to what Atticus answers "Alexandra, Calpurnia's not leaving this house until she wants to She's a faithful member of this family and you"ll simply have to accept things the way they are", (pg.137). Atticus considers Calpurnia as a member of his family and another important fact is that children love her. Other way to show his caring is when Scout is having troubles at school and does not want to go anymore because the teacher does not teach her the right way to read. Atticus explains her that school is very important because there she starts to be involved with the society and is the way to get an education. For this reason they make a deal, Atticus promise to read a book undercover every night in exchange for that she goes to the school every day. So Atticus makes her came back to school.
If there is something that Atticus cannot accept is injustice. Even in those times, when to defend a Negro man was unacceptable, Atticus agrees to defend Tom Robinson.
