This classification of wonderful people was what caused the stereotypes of men being great athletes, great politicians, and other great male role models. An example he gave was how comfortably showed affection towards his cats by kissing them on their heads. Another example he gave was the embarrassing fact about his lack of knowledge for repairing cars. The smallest problem that almost any man would be able to fix would have Perrin referring to a manual. The only thing that aided him in helping him how to maintain a stable household was a book called Home Repairs Any Woman Can Do. It is likely that any man wouldn't even touch this book because the wordwoman? is in the title! But through all this he was, and always would be, a male figure. He is a male without the average masculine characteristics of a stereotypical man.
In modern day society, occupations in men tend to be hands-on and the occupations in women tend to be more mental. The reason for this may be the imitation factor that Perrin mentioned in his essay. 'they are often so unself-consciously at ease in the world that other men seek to imitate them.? In the sports industry, for example, certain sports, such as football and major league baseball, are only played by men. Why? Men usually have a reputation to maintain to prove that they are real masculine. It is difficult for the average American man to accept women in some sports. If a woman were to accomplish something usually only accomplished by men, then men would think that that woman has a high level of masculinity. Some men would also think that since the woman succeeded in a 'male's game,? the men would think that they aren't being as masculine as they should be and so they strive to do better than that woman.
When men first see a man to do a 'macho? football catch, they would yearn to imitate that macho move. On the contrary, to androgynous people, like myself, they would not think of abiding by the so-called masculine things to do.
