Gold and Silver

To compare: "to find out or point out how persons or things are alike." At a first glance, these two stories; "An Enemy of the People" and Mosquito Coast seemed impossible to compare because they were completely different from each other. They were similar though in that their characters had similar characteristics. Mrs. Stockmann and the mother are very passive minded, Peter and the priest are very jealous of others, and Dr. Stockmann and Allan are very hard- working. .
Mrs. Stockmann and the mother from "Mosquito Coast" would be known today as "whipped" people, or in other words, they do whatever their spouse tells them to do. Mrs. Stockmann shows this when she asks her husband if they could move to Norway. He replies with an answer of "no" and she just accepts that and doesn't present her points as to why they should. She also tries to tell him not to print an article, but he says that she needs to go back home. She takes that and said nothing more about it. Likewise, the mother from Mosquito Coast does the same thing. She and her kids would have liked to go back to the US; she tells Allan, he says no, and then she just drops that whole idea. When their family first leaves for their island, Allan told her they were going, and then they just went without a word being discussed about it. These two characters are the two most similar characters of all.
Another comparison between the two subjects is the priest at the village church in Mosquito Coast and Peter from "An Enemy of the People." They resent Allan and Dr. Stockmann respectively. As soon as the priest finds out that Allan is starting to put together a village and get much appreciation from them, the priest envies him and his family. The priest was unable to handle the fact that he was beginning to lose many of his followers. Meanwhile, Peter begins to be jealous of the doctor when he discovers the contamination problem.
