Abraham's Sacrifice

The story of Abrahams sacrifice is one of the most powerful stories in the Old Testament. In the story God tested strength, faith and courage among other things. .
In this story God promised Abraham a son. For many years Abrahams wife, Sarah, could not bear him a child. Sarah did not believe in God's promise to give her a son so Sarah decided to take matters into her own hands and gave her slave Hagar to Abraham as a second wife hoping that they could have a child through her. Hagar gave them a son named Ishmael and since Hagar was a slave the child automatically became Sarah's. When Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90 God fulfilled his promise and Sarah had a son named Isaac. The name Isaac means laughter. Since Sarah now had a son of her own she did not want Ishmael to share Isaac's inheritance and told Abraham to send him and Hagar away. God told Abraham that Sarah was right and Ishmael and his offspring would also become a great nation. When Isaac was a little older God decided to test Abraham's faith. He told him to take his only son Isaac and sacrifice him as a burnt offering. Abraham did not want to sacrifice his only son but he had great faith and God and decided that what God tells him is right and he took Isaac to sacrifice him. Abraham took his son, wood, and a knife to the spot God had chosen. When he was ready to make the sacrifice Isaac questioned Abraham and asked him where the lamb for the sacrifice was. Abraham replied that God would provide the sacrifice. When Abraham tied Isaac up and held up the knife ready to make the sacrifice an angel called out to him. The angel told Abraham not to kill Isaac and instead sacrifice the ram that was caught by his horns. Abraham and Isaac sacrificed the lamb and gave thanks to God. God promised to bless Abraham and his descendants and make them as numerous as the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. .
That day of the sacrifice God tested Abrahams faith and endurance.
