Romer v. Evans


            
             Gay's right to have exclusive rights has been the discusion of much contraversy.
             Over the past few years homosexuals have been apearing in all parts of the country and .
             have been ruining the famaly morals. In one particular case the state ecided to pass a law .
             that would stop homosexuals and lesbians are denied the wright to have seperate laws .
             protecting them. The state of Colorado pased a certain law named Amendment 2 that .
             simply stated that the homosexuals and lesbians should not have seperate laws that would .
             give the gay's and lesbian's special rights. the Amendment 2 was pased by a majority .
             vote of 53.4 percent upholding Amendment 2 and a 46.6 percent that was against the .
             amendment. Opponents quickly challenged Amendment 2 saying that it violated the 14th .
             Amendment clause that stated" No State shall . deny to any peorson within it's .
             Jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." When the Colorado state Supreme Court .
             agreed with the minoraty vote and said that it violated the 14th amendment rights for .
             individuals they decided to file an appeal in a case called Romer v. Evans and take the .
             case all the way to the Supreme Court, but before the court even heared about the case the .
             both parties had to submit a brief on why their party was correct. .
             Whe the Supreme Cour t finally heard the case they had a split decision in wich the .
             majoraty vote was against Amendment 2 and said that the law simply violated the gay and .
             lesbian activist's 14th Amendment rights, and simply served no peurpose. While the .
             minoraty vote said that it didn't violate the 14th Amendment because it didn't violate the 14th Amendment.
             and wasn't violating theire rights instead it was protecting them from being secluded and was protecting .
             the famaly values. The minoraty allso said that the law didn't violate the gay and lesbian activist because gay .
             and lesbians could still aplly to any job or do as they pleased within the law.
